Traditionally, we have associated the RV trip with a retired couple or a family that uses this kind of vehicles as a cheap way to travel.
With the revival of the campervan phenomenon this topic has lost steam, as more and more young people (and not so young ) chose this vehicle because they can combine its daily use with recreational tasks such as travelling or practicing a wide range of sports like kite surfing or climbing.
I’m always up for seeing more of Andalucía, and for trying something new and fun. This September I cycled the length of Spain, and I can tell you when you pedal every meter from the North to the South of Andalucía you appreciate both its beauty and its size. It’s a region which is approximately two thirds the size of England, and includes numerous amazing national parks with stunning countryside, the Sierra Nevada ski resort, amazing treasures like Granada, Cadiz, Malaga, El Chorro, El Torcal, Jerez de la Frontera, Guadix and Cordoba to name just a few. In short a superb place to go touring.
Last weekend we opted for something new and did our first Campervan holidays. And what a great way to see the region, with your own self-contained, well equipped, apartment on wheels. We collected ‘Carmela’, our modern VW camper, from Flamenco Campers just near Malaga airport. Carmela has two sisters, Lola and Manuela, with a new addition to the family (Pepa) coming soon!

We decided to take a few days in Andalucía at the end of March to get away from cold wet London. I own a VW campervan myself, so you might think it sounds a bit crazy to fly to Spain and hire one? But the truth is nothing else can match the campervan experience for adventure. We tend to get itchy feet in a place after 1 or 2 days, so a campervan is the perfect holiday for us. Having been to Andalucía several times over the years, we knew there were places we wanted to see again, and new places to explore.
We arrived at Malaga Airport and were greeted bang on time by smiley friendly Gonzalo, who whisked us to his spotless garage about 10 minutes away.
